Anti-Hair Loss Treatment
Overview
Hair loss affects the appearance of an individual and hence causes inferiority complex. Every such person aspires for perfect hair and there are 2 effective ways that can help them realize their dream. These may include –
1. Approved Medications:
There are many hair loss medications in the market that promise to prevent further loss and regrow hair. However there are only two medicines which are approved for hair loss
- Oral Finasteride
- Topical Minoxidil
2. Popular Therapies:
Therapies such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Mesotherapy, and Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) could serve as a great option in treating hair related problems.
Anti-hair loss medications and therapies are believed to stimulate present hair follicles but cannot bring back those which have been lost. Therefore, the major benefit of anti-hair loss treatment seems to be in its ability to slow down or halt hair loss, or regrow hair in parts of the scalp, where the hair is thin. It does not seem to grow hair in completely bald areas. This makes their effectiveness limited in cases of extreme hair loss.
The benefits of anti-hair loss treatment will stop if it is discontinued. Over two to six months following discontinuation, the hair loss pattern will generally return to the state that it would have been reached if the medication had never been used. So anti-hair loss treatment has to be continued for keeping the improvement sustained. Hence long-term treatments with these medicines can be expensive and can have side effects.
Increased hair fall during the first 3 months of treatment might be noticed. This generally is an indication that the treatment is working, so the treatment should not be discontinued unless there are side effects.
